Tips For Buying and Selling
Buying:

  1. Always contact seller by phone
  2. If possible visit the horse and owner in person.
  3. Consider a vet check.
  4. Ask Questions:
  1. Bad habits: cribbing, weaving, etc
  2. Injuries
  3. Vaccinations & health papers
  4. Registration papers: review and validate
  5. Rider's ability: who can ride this horse
  6. Horse's experience: hauls, clips, stands for farrier, takes
    shots,  where has it been ridden.
  1. Understand your payment options
  2. Discuss the purchase options: Pay now pick up later, set a date
    for  transfer of funds and ownership, make board arrangements if  
    needed.
Selling:

  1. Always contact buyer by phone
  2. Never ship your horse until the check/cashier's check has cleared.
  3. Beware of foreign buyers
  4. Beware of counterfeit checks and cashier's checks: Call the issuing
    bank ( do not use the number on the check it may be a hoax) and
    verify the amount, check number, payee, issue date
  5. Keep the buyers name and phone number and breed membership
    number if available.
  6. Record the license, make, and model of the hauling vehicle along
    with the destination of the horse.
